Flavia de Luce

It’s been a while since I’ve last posted – mostly due to school – but here’s an awesome series just in time for Christmas Break!

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (Flavia de Luce #1) by Alan Bradley

Flavia de Luce is not your ordinary eleven-year-old girl. Living in the small town of Bishop Lacey, she is independent, charming, and fierce. She also knows about twenty ways to poison you with household items – which come in handy when her sisters tie her up and leave her in the cellar. But when a stranger takes his last breath in their garden, all normality is forgotten as she is swept up in to the mystery. Secrets are reveled and history comes back to haunt the citizens of Bishop Lacey in this wonderful book.

This isn’t what I normally prefer to read, but I was happily surprised. Flavia is a unique character you will instantly love and every character has their own wonderful quirks that propel the story along. Clues and revelations lead you along, coming to a surprising answer in the end. All the details made these books a pleasure to read. With eight books in total, this series will keep you entertained for hours!
