The Ruins of Gorlan

The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan

When Will is accepted as an apprentice for Ranger Halt, he’s not sure what to think. The Rangers are a mysterious group that most people think are black magicians. But as Will finds out, they are really an elite group of men dedicated to protecting the kingdom’s fifty fiefs. He soon begins his training, and spends most of his days practicing archery, tracking, geography, and most importantly, learning how to move without being seen. But soon it becomes evident that the kingdom is in danger. Morgarath, Lord of the Mountains of Rain and Night, is preparing to attack the kingdom. And he is determined to win.

This book is amazing! It was recommended to me by several people before I finally read it and I’m so glad I didn’t skip it. This is another one of those books you will not be able to put down.  It is the first book in a series of 12, called the Ranger’s Apprentice,  and there is a companion series, the Brotherband Chronicles. There will also be 2 prequels. Don’t wait to read it like I did. READ IT!

Theodore Boone- Kid Lawyer

Theodore Boone- Kid Lawyer by John Grisham

Theodore Boone loves the law. Not like excited-to-follow-the-rules loves the law, but everything to do with courtrooms, lawyers, and judges. In fact, he’s so known for it, that when his fellow students need legal help, they’ll come to him. Most of his “cases” end up in animal court, the only courtroom that anyone can be a lawyer in, but soon he’ll get involved in a bigger case. Pete Duffy is accused of  murder and Theo is ready for some excitement. But when he stumbles across the missing piece to this courtroom puzzle, can he act fast enough? Or will a murderer go free?

This book is a fun mix of adventure and law, and is different from any other book I’ve read. I like the fast pace and unexpectedness of every book. Another thing I like is I now know more about the law than I did. Interesting facts are sprinkled in and make the story very realistic. So far there are five books, but there is definitely room for more.
